Grow Rosemary from Seeds of Cuttings?

You can grow rosemary through seeds and cuttings.

Seeds take ages to germinate, so go straight to a cutting or buy a small pot from the nursery for a few dollars. Believe me it is worth the wait.

The cheapest option is to grab some cuttings from a friend.

Just сlір оff  10 to 15 centimeters long stem, however many you want. Have a pot with some good potting mix ready.
Remove the bottom two thirds of the spikes. You can dip the end without the spikes into rooting powder or honey to help them propogate.
Make a deep hole in the potting mix and plant the stems in groups of two or three.

Take a plastic soda or water bottle and cut off the base. Place over the stems and push into the potting mix so they are secure. Using a spray bottle, spray every other day, into the plastic bottle with the cuttings.
Keep indoors or away from the direct sun for 4 weeks or until you see new growth. Remove the plastic bottle and for another 4 weeks
and they will be ready to plant in the garden or a bigger pot.

Once you have them planted, don’t over water and provide a thick layer of mulch around the base of each rosemary cutting will keep the moisture in.

Once established, rosemary grows will in full sun for about 5 hours a day. With fertilizing, it can grow to 4 feet and as an indoor plant rotate every few days so all of the plant receives some sun.

Sо whеn it соmеѕ time tо hаrvеѕt your rоѕеmаrу, аll you have tо dо іѕ tаkе оut your ѕсіѕѕоrѕ and сlір away. And whаt’ѕ nісе is rosemary’s pretty hаrdу аnd іt will last fоr a bіt іnѕіdе. You don’t еvеn need to рut іt in the fridge.

Rosemary the Rodent Deterrant

Living on a farm, we get mice inside in the autumn as it cools down. They come in the house, aaagh !! and in the car aaagh !!!.
A great deterrent is to crush and sprinkle the the dried leaves in the pantry, behind the fridge and oven and in a matter of days they have gone. Refresh the dried leaves everyday, they hate the smell.
Rosemary Essence does the same job, it’s brilliant.

Rosemary the Great Garden Companion Plant

In the garden, rosemary deters cabbage moth, bean beetles, and carrot fly when planted near cabbage, beans, carrots, and sage. Other veggies to benefits include onion, parsley and broccoli.

Good rosemary companions naturally need to grow the same growing conditions.  Rosemary do best in good sun and well-drained soil, and so should their best companion friends. roses, marigolds and geraniums to well planted with rosemary.

So оnсе your rоѕеmаrу іѕ thrіvіng and grоwіng, уоu’ll nееd a great rесіреs.

Rosemary in the Kitchen

I’ve got a lot of rosemary growing so I have a lot of culinary uses.
  • Rosemary Potatoes
  • Rosemary with Roast Chicken or Lamb
  • Rosemary and Olive Bread
  • Rosemary and Garlic Buscuits
  • Rosemary and Parmesan Crackers
  • Making Rosemary Herbal Essence, Oil and Vinegar

Other uses in the kitchen include tomato dishes, stews, soups, vegetable dishes, pork, rabbit, sausages, fish, shellfish, finely chopped in custards, egg dishes, pickles, jellies, jams, cakes, cookies, salads, and is an essential ingredient in herb breads and biscuits, including focaccia, the classic Italian bread.

Rosemary can be added to the cooking water to enliven cauliflower, green beans, and peas. Marinades for fish and meats as well as minestrone, chicken, and pea soups benefit from the addition of rosemary.

Rosemary has a strong flavour so use sparingly. Leaves, stems, and flowers are all edible. To release the flavour of dried leaves, crush them just before using.

Rosemary Vinegar

Just take some rosemary, just a few stems and gently crush the fresh stems with a spoon to release the essential oils. Then I just drop the rosemary down in the bottle.

Boil the white vinegar only until the first bubbles rise. The cool slightly and add the warm vinegar into the bottle. Make sure the stems were wellbelow –or just below– the neck of the bottle. Now, all I have to do is take a corkand put it in the top of the bottle, but I’ll wait for this to completely cool.Herb

It will last 4 months in direct light and 6 months in the fridge. How easy is making Rosemary Vinegar !

Rosemary Oil

This process is just as easy as making Rosemary Vinegar however it takes much longer. You can set it up overnight or an afternoon. First you need to gather some household items as well as your rosemary.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of rosemary spikes removed from the stem
  • 2 cups of sunflower or unscented oil
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Bowl
  • Glass bottle for the finished oil.

Add the rosemary and oil into the slow cooker and set for 6 hours on a high setting. Cool the oil and pour into a bowl. Funnel into your decorative bottle and seal. There you have your fragrant rosemary oil.
